Description of the space

Meeting in the mountains

The conference room is formed by organic shapes, using steam-bent wood. The curved wood surrounds the whole space and only leaves the ceiling as a capsule-shaped glass dome. In order to realize such a construction, geometric glass triangles are used as a contrast to the organic wood structure. 32 seats are set into the wood panels and form a regular pattern. In the back the wood rises into the ceiling, creating almost the feeling of a stage. In the front there is a big screen, allowing all visitors a clear view of the presentation. The stage is highlighted through wooden structures on both sides. The whole space gives the impression of being molded out of one piece and merges into a wave-shaped space. It is covered in an interesting light situation due to the triangular-shaped ceiling.

Athmosphere

When I first entered the space I felt very comfortable and welcomed because it is a closed space and warm materials such as wood were used. I felt like I have an overview, not lost, more like a safe, warm bubble. The contrast of the snowy surroundings on the outside gave me the sensation of being in a wooden mountain cottage, where I was protected from being cold. After walking through the room for a while and getting closer to the material textures, I noticed that they were very badly placed. The wood pieces didn’t fit together and were obviously wrongly used for the purpose of forming seats. The more I focussed on the details the less relaxing did I feel. Also, the seat cushions didn’t seem to have any volume. I had more and more the feeling of being in a poorly designed video game.
